Why Does My Shower Screen Leak?

One of the most common complaints homeowners have is water leaking from the shower screen onto the bathroom floor.

In many cases the problem is not caused by just one issue, but by a combination of factors.

Common causes include:

• the shower rose directing water toward the screen
• the shower opening being too wide
• panels that are too narrow to control water runoff
• incorrect placement of the glass on the hob
• the layout of the shower area itself

Another common cause is silicone breakdown.

Over time the silicone sealing around the shower screen can deteriorate, especially in areas exposed to regular water and cleaning products. When this happens, water may begin to escape through small gaps around the glass or the base of the screen.

Sometimes replacing the silicone can solve the problem. In other situations the issue is related to the layout of the shower screen and the way water is directed within the shower area.

With more than 30 years experience and over 50,000 bathroom visits, Sam has seen many examples where a combination of layout adjustments and proper sealing prevents ongoing water leakage.

Understanding the cause of the leak is the first step in finding the right solution.
